CPAC Day 3 – The Coulter Club

| February 28, 2009 | Comments (6)

coulter-line-1Ann Coulter is a for-real rock star, especially among young conservatives, many of whom have been standing on line behind me for the past hour just to get her autograph. That doesn’t include the people who were lining up at 11:45 for her 12:30 speech. Yes, fully-fledged members of Generation ADHD were standing patiently for the chance to sit in a ballroom and listen to a speech.

You’d think that at some point, the “grown up” conservatives would really try to figure out why she’s such a draw. It’s not just the cheesecake factor; I’d bet that at least half of the people who have processed behind me are female. Its her willingness to scrap and her ability to couch conservative principles in short, tasty bites that make her a star here at CPAC.

Those are also the same qualities that have made Sarah Palin and Joe Wurzelbacher rock stars, too. Unfortunately, those skills also put them at odds with the folks who want lots of long policy discussions full of gravitas. I’ll write more about that after the weekend.

UPDATE: I’m back and have much to do. Unfortunately, the spam blocker on my blog flaked out sometime last night and I’ve had to sort the good comments from the bad by hand. To Valerie, the very nice woman from CWA I met yesterday at your booth, please send along another comment. I will find it and make sure it gets through today!

    Conservative Rock Stars:

    Ann Coulter- comedian and author(?)

Sarah Palin- governor of a small state

Joe Wurzelbacher- not a plumber and not even Joe

    Liberal Rock Stars:

Barack Obama- President of the United States

Paul Krugman- Nobel Laureate in Economics

Nancy Pelosi- Speaker of the House

On the Rock Star front, you guys have some work to do. And I haven't even mentioned actual Rock Stars like Neil Young or Bruce Springsteen. Or pretty much any other rock star, for that matter. The Republicans are a joke that keeps getting funnier. I can't wait to hear the punchline.

Didn't like my comment, did you?

Fostert, Would it make you feel better to know that sometimes my comments go directly into moderation also? Seems to happen somewhat randomly to anyone who posts here. No problem; Jimmie just passes them through the next time he logs on. Stop being so paranoid….no one is out to get you.
