If We had An Old Testament God, His Arm Would Be Worn Out
Less than a week after signing the largest economic stimulus package in U.S. history, President Obama is turning his attention to the nation’s long-term financial condition with an unprecedented effort to rein in government spending
To kick off the effort, the new president has invited about 130 people to the White House State Dining Room on Monday for a “fiscal responsibility” summit, a marathon session on long-term budget-busters such as Social Security, Medicare, federal purchasing and tax policy.
The “summit” will mostly include left-wing boobs lecturing a number of other left-wing boobs about how to spend ever more of your money and grab even more control of your life. The speakers at various “breakout” sessions involve a tax cheat and the White House Budget Director who was against his boss’ stimulus bill before he was for it, among others. It’s going to be a perfect storm of progressive totalitarian-government types and folks who used to have good economic sense but sold out to bag a government paycheck and an office in the White House talking about how we all have to sacrifice, tighten our belts, and trust the very people who got us into this mess in the first place. And you just know the MSM will eat up with a spoon.
Oh, and if that’s not bad enough, the President has put fumble-tongued Joe Biden in charge of the whole Fiscal Responsibility Jamboree. So we’ll get the additional job of watching the incomprehensible explaining the indefensible.
Again, Democrats have reason to be thankful that our God is not the vengleful lightning-hurling God of the Old Testament. Otherwise, there’d be a lot of ash piles littering the floor of the White House right now and God would probably need an ice bucket and a late-inning reliever.
Meanwhile, America is preparing to have a national summit meeting of its own. Unlike what’s happening in Washington, our meetings demand real fiscal responsibility – the kind that doesn’t spend hundreds of billions of dollars on bribes to Democratic activist groups while jacking up taxes on hard-working people who want to make a few bucks and pass them on to their kids without the government pillaging their caskets for loose change. Our fiscal responsibility means real cuts to the federal budget and substantial tax cuts so that each of us can decide where our money really should be spent no matter whether we’re rich or poor. We’re rejecting the predatory borrowing of the Democrats that punishes people who work hard, seek success, and live responsibly. You know, exactly the same stuff that the President is pushing at his Summit of Economic Delusion.
The really bad news for the President and his Amen Corner is that more than a couple elected officials on our side and 2010 isn’t all that far away.
