“It is never a bad time for Republicans to speak economic truth…”

mccoy-freakout-scale-level-fourStacy McCain has a column in The American Spectator that deserves wide attention tomorrow morning. Not only does he carve a gaping hole in Arlen Specter’s claim that “no one” would argue that we need his trillion-dollar vote-buying bill and in the President’s rhetoric of panic but he also gives the GOP some very good suggestions on how to proceed from here.

He winds it up with this:

It is never a bad time for Republicans to speak economic truth, and the truth about the Pelosi plan can still be summed up in three words: It won’t work.

It won’t. Anyone with a lick of common sense can see that tying up a trillion dollars of private money in programs that will either fatten the coffers of Democratic donor groups or projects that will take years to start producing menial jobs is absolute folly. I don’t care how many times President Obama declares a Level Four McCoy Freakout, his plan will not work.

Not only will the Stimulus Bill fail, but it will fail so badly that in five years we’ll be calling what’s happening to us now “the good old days”.

Meanwhile, there’s the little matter of the $700 billion we already gave the government. You remember that money, don’t you? That was the cash that was supposed to go toward preventing financial institutions from collapsing. Congress passed that bill on October 3, 2008 and it still doesn’t know what it’s going to do with the money. Precious little of it has been given out even though the entire reason that money was taken from us was to forestall an immediate emergency.

You know, kind of like the emergency that Barack Obama, Nancy Peloci, Harry Reid, Arlen Specter, and Susan Collins are telling us exist right now. Yet four months later there’s been no collapse, no emergency, no Even Greater Depression.

So what’s to happen to that money? Well, Treasury Secretary and tax fraud Tim Geithner knows what will happen to it but he won’t tell us until we give him a trillion dollars more.

Think about that. Your government refuses to tell you what it’s going to do with money it took from you under what we now see were false pretenses unless you let it take even more money under the very same pretenses.

That’s not responsible government; that arrogance and borderline blackmail.

Found this on another blog – no link provided. I know that "Maxine" is a cartoon, but I don't have a site for the original…

"Maxine explains the bailout. She says, "BAIL EM OUT?!! Hell, back in 1990, the Government seized the Mustang Ranch brothel in Nevada for tax evasion and, as required by law, tried to run it. They failed and it closed. Now we are trusting the economy of our country and our banking system to the same nit-wits who couldn't make money running a whore house and selling whiskey!" "
