The Democrats’ Reckless Rush to Stimulate
For six years I’ve heard the phrase “rush to war” used by the left to allege that President Bush didn’t give Congress time to deliberate fully before we went into Iraq and took down the monster Hussein. Hell, some chucklehead has even made a movie.
The truth is that the UN Security council passed Resolution 1441 (which gave Saddam Hussein 30 days to comply with UN demands or face immediate consequences) on November 8, 2002. the Second Iraq War officially started on March 23, 2003, over four months later. If you’re one of the Tin Foil Skullcap Club who believes that the President had been planning to go into Iraq since at least September 11, then the so-called rush to war took one year and two months.
I mention that timeline, and the left’s egregious distortion of the word “rush”, because they seem to have forgotten the word entirely when it comes to their so-called stimulus package. David Harsanyi, perhaps the best columnist you’ve not yet seen, notes that the House of Representatives had exactly one day to debate a bill that spends far more more of your money all at once than we’ve spent in Iraq and Afghanistan in six years. The Senate will have about two weeks to digest a similar bill.
Think about that. Hancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have demanded that we accept the biggest expenditure of taxpayer cash ever seen on the face of this planet by far after less than three weeks of study and debate. Now, it’s not reckless to come to a quick decision that will spend billions of your dollars and have effects that reverberate for generations, it’s required.
When will we hear about the Democrats’ reckless and dangerous Rush to Debt from the same MSM parrots and left-wing bomb-throwers who have been whining about the Rush to War for six years? I’m not holding my breath but it’s good that someone is at least asking the question.

Good point. Have you noticed that when GWB was president, it was a bailout? Now, that its PBO, its a stimulus package. Hmmmmm.
I would think the time line needs to be changed. Part of the cease-fire for the Gulf war was a bunch of things Hussein could do/not do. Also weapon inspections had to take place.
I remember the game Hussein played with the inspectors and finally they were forced out of Iraq.
A big list of sundry violations that Bill Clinton should have acted on. But Bill was too busy chasing skirts.
You could make a plausible case that Hussein's cease-fire violations could be part of the run-up, since President Clinton actually re-initiated hostilities by firing missiles into Iraq in response. You could probably make a better case that the bipartisan and widely-supported Congressional resolution making regime-change in Iraq official US policy was more or less the official beginning of our war buildup against Hussein. That resolution was, I believe, in 1998.
