We’re Doing the Islamists’ Work for Them
Free Speech is dying a strangled, mewling death in the Netherlands. A Dutch court has ordered prosecutors to put politician and filmmaker Geert Wilders on trial for his statements about Islam that have offended some Muslims.
One more time. A man is being put on trial in a Western nation. His only offense is speech that Muslims don’t like. Mark Steyn points out how the Muslims are getting special protection from the Dutch.
I’m inclined to say that I’m glad it can’t happen here, but it can. In fact, we have less free speech today than we did a few years ago and our government had little to do with it. As Mark Steyn put it, we did it to ourselves. Our MSM, our media personalities, our television and movie stars have all become craven little weasels who have no problem mouthing off against people they know won’t do more than say a few angry words back (if that) but can’t summon the courage to really speak truth to primitive Islamist power.
