Senator Placeholder Declares His Own Coolness
You don’t know Senator Ted Kaufman, nor is it worth very much effort to try, unless you live in Delaware, then you should probably be a little bit ticked off. All most of us need to know about him is that he used to work as a high-ranking staffer for VP Joe Biden and has been his friend for many years. When Biden vacated the seat, the Governor of Delaware, doing his best impression of a ventriloquist’s dummy, appointed Kaufman. He’ll be in the seat until 2010, at which point he’ll hand it over to Biden’s son. I suppose it’s not nepotism if you make your kid compete for it pro forma, right? I’ve taken to thinking of him as Senator Placeholder.
Senator Kaufman is practically giddy about being a Senator (and why shouldn’t he be?) and has gone so far as to claim “dozens” of interviews. That does seem like a bit of a stretch, doesn’t it? I’m not altogether sure there are dozens of media outlets in Delaware. Even if there are, they certainly can’t all be clamoring for an interview with him. It’s not like the Vice President is going to let him think for himself while he’s there.

Nice post. A few of these guys will have a swagger for a bit. And keep in mind that he was handed about a $10M lottery ticket, with that new senate seat!
