Chalk up another useless Republican Senator.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Sources close to Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, tell CNN he will announce Monday he is retiring from the Senate.

The 72-year-old senator and former Ohio governor has been contemplating retirement for a while but made his final decision this weekend in Florida, where he was joined by his wife, children and grandchildren, according to one of the sources.

George Voinovich has barely been a Republican for the past two years, posting ACU scores worse even than Mavericky Johnny Mac. He was a primary mover behind ending the moratorium on Internet access and e-commerce taxes. He single-handedly held up John Bolton’s confirmation as Ambassador to the UN using unproven rumor and a vague feeling of unease as his rationale without attending a single confirmation hearing. On the Senate floor, he cried over the mere possibility that mean ol’ John might make us lose friends.

He can’t get his whiny little tax-loving hinder parts out of the Senate quickly enough. He retired years too late, so far as I’m concerned.

Kudos to Matt Lewis for getting the scoop on Voinovich’s retirement days go.
