I Admit It. The GOP Has Flummoxed Me
I really don’t get the Republican Party. Party folks have spent well over a week rending their clothes and covering themselves in ashes over RNC chair candidate Chip Saltsman. Saltsman, I’m sure you’ve heard, sent out a CD with a bunch of songs on it. One of them was a parody song made popular on the Rush Limbaugh radio show called “Barack the Magic Negro”. The song was about as controversial when Rush aired it as a Weird Al parody yet Saltsman has been raked over the coals by both party honchos and the media. While the GOP has been busy eating its own, the MSM is, in their best non-biased and purely objective fashion, questioning whether the Republican Party is full of unrepentant racists.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party is about to have uniformed police officers physically prevent a 71 year-old black man who has been legally-appointed to the US Senate from setting foot in the Senate chamber. Seriously. On this, the GOP is curiously quiet.
So, on one hand the GOP flips out over a parody song and seems bound and determined to make it a big national story with a de Sade level of self-flagellation. On the other hand it is utterly quiet about the fact that the Democrats are ready to re-enact the scene at the University of Alabama in 1963, only with Harry Reid playing the role of George Wallace.
Were the roles reversed, what would the Democratic party be spending all its time talking about? The answer to that question also explains why the Democrats control Washington.

"Sade level of self-flagellation"–you kill me!!
As a party, the Republicans are excellent at picking the splinter out of our own eyes while ignoring the logs in the Dems eyes. Especially on issues regarding race and sexual issues. We'd HATE to offend anyone, afterall.
I really don't get it. The GOP should be like ravening lions right now, tearing into the exposed underbelly of the Dems and dropping their own good proposals like bombs, but, thus far, nothing.
I so totally agree with you.
The GOP may have forever destroyed the conservative brand by Bush and companies totally 'unconservative' actions; most especially bailouts from a-z! We need to get it right and move forward in the midst of BO's failure on all fronts to the people who elected him – most especially to get us out of the position of policing the world.
It might not be so bad to police the world if we had a constitutional mandate to do so and if in fact we weren't totally busted financially . . .
Hope we wakeup in time to save the nation!
Blessings,
Sandie

When Bush takes criticism years from now, I seriously doubt it's going to be because of Iraq or Afghanistan. It'll be because of the runaway growth of the federal government's power and size. Iraq and Afghanistan are going to be seen, I think, as historical successes.
The only thing I can think is that the Republicans in positions to do a little ripping and tearing do not have the will to win. I don't understand it…I HATE to lose.
I honestly don't know if there's fight in them or not. Some of them, sure, but enough?
