Ron Coleman, who I’ve only recently met online thanks to Twitter, is leaving Twitter. I understand the reasoning: Twitter can be a huge time-sink, especially if you’re particularly good at social networking, which Coleman obviously is. For someone who has plenty of other things on their plate, Twitter can intrude. The other drawback to Twitter, which Coleman outlines here, is that people can focus far too much on the picayune. I enjoy political discussions as much as the next guy, but I’ll be doggoned if I can talk about it all day. Too much of anything is bad, even if that thing is conservative politics.

For folks like me, though, who need an additional leg up when it comes to things social, Twitter can be a godsend. I’ve met some genuinely interesting people and have had the opportunity to up my online presence a bit more, which I see as a good thing. I’ll be sticking with it a while longer, though like Coleman, I won’t hesitate to drop it if it starts to cut into things I think are more important.

  1. Come on, Jimmie — call me Ron, like you used to do on Twitter! ;-)

  2. Jimmie says:

I don’t like to assume too much familiarity (upbringing kicking in and all) I’m sorry to see you leaving Twitter. I hope we remain in contact otherwise!
