Barack Obama to Use Soldiers for Worldwide Photo Op
P-E Obama really does love the military! Who knew?
President-elect Obama is planning an inaugural ball exclusively for members of the military, and his Presidential Inauguration Committee is working with the Defense Department to have the bash broadcast around the world.
The worldwide broadcast would be a first. The new president and his wife, Michelle, are likely to drop by the event for a dance and brief remarks.
What does he want, a cookie?
The ball wasn’t his idea; George Bush started it during his 2005 inaugural. If there’s any news to the story, it’s that he’s trying really hard to make it a worldwide photo op for him and his wife. You can bet that the main reason he’s dropping by with some “brief remarks” is because the cameras will be there. He needs to demonstrate, at least once, that he is sympatico with our soldiers in some way. His little drop-by last week to a base in Hawaii went over about as well as a sumo wrestler learning to pole-vault and he needs a little image rehab.
That’s why he’s working up the big broadcast and that’s why he’s going to make an appearance. It’s a big PR opportunity for Barack Hussein Obama, Military BFF. The only hitch to his plans is that it’s entirely possible that he will get exactly the same reception during the ball that he got in Hawaii. If that happens, it won’t be such a coup, though I’m quite sure any applause will be played up by his media groupies as enthusiastic support.
Were George Bush a petty man, he’d arrange a little military gathering of his own the day before the inauguration, just to introduce a little comparison. But he’s not at all a petty man, luckily for Barack Obama.
