Egypt Backs Israel’s Play, Puts the Rhetorical Smackdown on Hamas

Michael van der Galien has a very interesting post on PoliGazette about Egypt’s new rhetorical war against Hamas. It seems that Egypt has had about enough of Hamas’ use of the Palestinian people as human shields and weapons.

It could also be that Egypt has grown tired of having Hamas thugs shooting at them from the southern border of Gaza. In either case, Egypt seems to have sided, at least for the moment, with Israel. In itself, that is a momentous development and Israel would be foolish not to look into the feelers Egypt is sending out with every anti-Hamas statement.

Meanwhile, here’s an interesting op-ed in the Washington Post from a former Israeli Defense Minister who has some particular knowledge of Gaza, especially around the time that Hamas shot their way through Fatah to take control. Mr. Sneh lays out the history of the Israely withdrawal from Gaza and how it got to where it is today.

Rasmussen’s latest poll shows why columns like Mr. Sneh’s are so necessary. When 41% of American still believe tht Israel should have used more diplomacy with a group that was violating its own truce pretty much every day with a continuing rain of rockets, there’s still some education that needs to be done. The good news comes farther into the poll, where the vast majority of Americans believe that Israel’s actions have been justified despite the very pro-Palestinian coverage from most of the MSM.
