No One Does Fiery Declarations of Innocence Like a Democratic Politician
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m filled with Christmas joy, thanks to Governor Rod Blagojevich. His press conference today was combative, magnificently ridiculous, and full of such theater as can only come from the cesspool that is Chicago politics. It’s not every day that you go to a press conference given by a crooked politician and get an impromptu poetry slam.
Blago’s says he’s going to “fight, fight, fight” which means that Barack Obama and every single Chicago crony he brought with him is going to sweat, sweat, sweat. We already know that the President-Elect has changed his story twice about who had contact with Blago and when. You can bet that story will change a dozen more times before the trial is done. Rahm Emanuel has to be on the edge of panic right now, considering that he’s the guy closest to both Obama and the governor and he’s apparently been the conduit between the two. He’s in a very precarious position, and I’ll be interested in seeing how long it takes before he joins the legion already thrown under the Hope and Change Express.
Here’s the thing we shouldn’t forget: Patrick Fitzgerald loves to set up perjury traps. You might recall that when he started the so-called Plame outing scandal he already knew who the leaker was. That didn’t stop him from launching a huge investigation, pulling in his elected officials and their staffers, and eventually getting a perjury conviction. That investigation, and the Libby conviction, did as much damage to the Bush administration as anything that happened in the past eight years. Don’t think for a second that similar damage can’t happen to the Obama administration unless this case gets put down very, very quickly.
I would not put it past the President-Elect to try very hard to make that happen.

I am absolutely certain he did not have sex wit….oh WAIT-sorry wrong criminal.Right. I am absolutely certain selling the Senate seat is not against the law. Wait? What? That can't be right either.
It's so amusing that even though he is on tape selling the Senate seat he proclaims innocence. And Rahm, oh poor Rahm, how far of a fall will he end up taking. Can't wait to see how this soap plays out.

This is clearly a prepared speech, meaning every word is crafted to make a point; so, sorry, I have to ask: of what possible relevance are the children's rights? Will he be asking to be tried as a minor?

My guess is that he's trying to evoke a little more sympathy, putting himself (the target of a cruel and reckless witchhunt) alongside helpless children. In other words, he's hiding behind kids.
