What If Mumbai Happens Here?
Dr. Melissa Clouthier asks, “What Would Happen If A Mumbai Attack Happened Here?” . It’s a good question to ask because what’s been happening there can very easily happen here. All any group would need are things that are easily gotten anywhere in the world: guns, plenty of ammunition, and some explosives.
And, please. Don’t give me any nonsense about lax gun laws or any other anti-gun folderol. Criminals will always be able to get all the guns they want because they don’t care about the law. Even if you banned guns entirely, criminals would still get guns because they’re criminals. Breaking the law is built into their job description. Don’t believe me? Look at Washington, DC and Chicago which combine the strictest anti-gun laws in the country with a sickeningly high rate of gun violence.
As to how we could respond, there’s only one answer that makes any sense at all.
In Mumbai, people were attacked in a hospital, hotel, a synagogue, and by a marauding hi-jacked police van. How could this attack be stopped here? Armed individuals. That’s it. That’s all I can come up with. Anything less and intervention is too delayed, too impotent.
An armed populace trained to fight back would go a long way to increasing security. The old fashioned notion of militias sprang to my mind just now. Maybe that’s the answer: civilians who band together and train for these situations.
The police can not keep you safe. It’s not their fault; it’s just that there are too few of them, we don’t live in a police state, and they’re not psychic. Your personal protection is your duty. That’s what the Second Amendment means.
If what’s been happening in Mumbai worries you then your best course of action is to buy a gun and get really good at using it. It may be the only thing between you and death one day.
