RNC Loser Pooh-Poohs Michael Steele

Some of the RNC old guard are not very happy that Michael Steele is crashing their party. He’s an outsider, see, and not a paid in full member of the Republican National Committee. Worse, he’s one of those “rock stars” that give the stuffed shirts and yellow bellies inside the party a case of the upturned noses. They would much rather promote from within and are not exactly being shy about taking a whack or two at Steele directly.

“For this association of members to choose to outsource its leadership would, I believe, be an abdication of our responsibility,” Curly Haugland, an RNC member from North Dakota and the former North Dakota Republican Party chairman, wrote in an e-mail to Mr. Steele.

Mr. Haugland called on Mr. Steele to quit the contest for Republican national chairman because he is not an RNC member.

“In my estimation, 168 committed members of the Republican National Committee are a powerful army of qualified advocates for Republican principles; certainly much more threatening to the Democrats than one celebrity spokesman,” Mr. Haugland said.

Really? I didn’t see a lot of scared Democrats this past November 5th. Seems to me that the “powerful army of qualified advocates” did a lot of fumbling and bumbling on the way to yet another series of humiliating November losses.

What I want to know is who is Curly Haugland and where has he been for the past 18 months while the Republicans were getting their brains beat out by Barack Obama and the DNC? The RNC can hardly do worse than whoever had been running the show recently and it certainly can’t fall much farther than it already has. Maybe Michael Steele can be the man and maybe he can’t. It’s a solid bet that he’ll at least increase the RNC’s profile, which would be a vast improvement over the past three or four years.

Give me a break…What has GOPAC accomplished since Michael Steele has taken over as chairman. When one looks at the website it looks like Steele Inc./GOPAC is dedicated completely to branding and promoting Steele.

How much of the substantial amount they have raised actually benefited any Republicans. From what I can tell they raised in excess of $8 Million and donated less than $100,000. Other than a few downloadable videos from the old days (when I actually attended a few of the seminars), it doesn't even look as if they offer training anymore!

What consultants is he employing for this RNC pursuit? It is my belief that Washington in general and the recent McCain campaign in particular have fallen under the influence of a select few consultants who continue to operate despite an endless succession of losses.Actually he is using the same consultants who he used in his Senate campaign…and they not only advised the Republican Senate Campaign Committee during the 2006 Debacle but also advised Elizabeth Dole and a slew of other losers. Not to mention that Alex Castellanos (who helped produce the puppy ads) created the "Hands" ad for Jesse Helms. With these losers at the Helm of the RNC the Democrats will be in power forever!

I suggest that the Republican party needs a tactician and not a Spokesmodel. Mr Steele has never missed an opportunity to promote himself and any organization he has been affiliated with were simply vehicles (see GOPAC).

While Mr Steele is very telegenic and a good speaker, we need to retool our party much as Haley Barbour (no pretty boy ) did. Steele is a weak fundraiser and a poor manager. He will hand the party apparatus over to consultants while he pursues speaking engagements across the country.

Also, is anybody aware that Steele supports DC Statehood??
