Barack Obama – Bringing the Best of the Last Two Presidents?

It looks like P-E Obama will ask Secretary of Defense Gates to stay on in the new administration. Add him to Hillary Clinton at State and General James Jones as the National Security Adviser, and the Administration of Change looks a whole lot like it’s going to have the foreign policy of George W. Bush.
I expect the anguished cries from the anti-war left to rise unto Heaven sometime before midnight and continue well into the next couple of years.
In all, the Hope and Change Express is shaping up a lot better than I could have expected. The mob of Clintonistas heading into the domestic Cabinet positions look to bring back the domestic policies of Bill Clinton which were in ways a lot more conservative-leaning than what we’ve had for the last eight years.
We could do a lot worse than four years of Bush foreign policy and Clinton domestic policy, I think.

This would be the same Clinton domestic policy which called the 1993 WTC bombing a “police action” and not a terrorist act.
This would be the same Clinton domestic policy that pushed through an “assault weapons” ban that proved completely useless.
This would be the same Clinton domestic policy that erected so many walls between intelligence agencies that they could not or would not share information, going so far as to miss multiple chances to grab Bin Laden.
Yeah, that’s the kind of domestic policy I want!

I’d consider the “walls” foreign policy insofar as it involved fighting foreign enemies.
However, if you had to suck those up, but get another significant entitlement reform on the order of welfare reform, an economy on the upswing, relatively low taxes, and a federal government that grew less large than it did under President Bush, would you take it?
I would.
