Who Will Control Your Life – You or Them?
Pam Meister looks at the growing Nanny State and asks a couple questions:
Certainly there is a problem here in America when it comes to diet and exercise. Thanks to modern technology, we not only have an overabundance of inexpensive food, but we’ve become a largely sedentary society. The obvious good comes with a price to pay. But does the answer really lie in relieving individuals of their personal responsibility in the choices they make? Should government bureaucrats who “know better” than you do have that much power over your life?
The answer to those questions frame the fundamental difference between progressives and conservatives. Conservatives say “no”, unequivocally. Progressives not only say “yes” but will tell you that you are woefully benighted for daring to disagree with them.
If progressives continue to get their way, things will get worse. A horde of government bureaucrats who know little else but bureaucracy will control nearly every aspect of your life. Take, for instance, Tom Daschle, who is likely to become the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the main person pushing through national health care. What jumps out at you when you look at his resume?
He’s never worked in health care.
He’s never worked in a doctor’s office, a hospital, a medical billing office, an insurance company, a hospice, an in-home care service, or any other place that actually deals with giving folks medical care on a daily basis.
On the other hand, he has spent a few years working as a “highly paid adviser” to a lobbying firm that’s gotten most of its money from the health care industry and he spent some time on the board of the Mayo Clinic. Only in a Democratic world does begging Congress for money, and spending over twenty years as a member of Congress, qualifies someone to design a system that could one day determine whether you get the medical care you need or want.
But if he gets what he wants, he will build an enormous bureaucracy that will suck plenty of money out of your paycheck and tell you how you must live you life if you want to see a doctor ever again.
Do you really want Tom Daschle and plenty of others who think they know better than you running your life?
