And I Should Listen to Chuck Hagel…Why?
By Jimmie on Nov 19, 2008 in The Republican Minority
Senator Chuck Hagel is mad as hell and he’s not going to take…whatever it is that he’s been taking…anymore. Hagel lashed out at Republicans and conservatives (again) during a recent speech.
“We are educated by the great entertainers like Rush Limbaugh,” Hagel said Tuesday during a speech in Washington, according to the Huffington Post.
“You know, I wish Rush Limbaugh and others like that would run for office,” a sarcastic Hagel continued. “They have so much to contribute and so much leadership and they have an answer for everything. And they would be elected overwhelmingly. [The truth is] they try to rip everyone down and make fools of everybody but they don’t have any answers.”
I have only two questions.
1) What answers has Chuck Hagel come up with in the past eight years besides “surrender” and “be like the Democrats”?
2) Who the hell is Chuck Hagel and why in the world should I care what he thinks?
It seems to me that Hagel is miffed that he isn’t a recognized national figure and jealous of Limbaugh’s hard-earned popularity. After all, he’s been in the Senate for a bazillion years, he’s leveraged his role as the Republican Who Hates Republicans into many appearances on Meet the Press, and he’s even being considered for a role in President-elect Obama’s cabinet. Despite all of that, he’s a relative unknown.
Rush Limbaugh, on the other hand, has a name and a voice that is recognized around the world. He has millions of people who are truly interested in what he says even though he’s not the darling of the Sunday talk shows. In fact, Rush Limbaugh runs for election every single day when he’s on the radio. Millions of people choose to spend part of their day listening to what he has to say every day over any of a hundred other things they could be doing. He does that without campaign contributions, a friendly MSM to lift him up, or bosom buddies in the hallowed halls of the Capitol to cut deals with him. Rush has become popular the old-fashioned way: he gives people something they want to hear without compromising his own personal beliefs and he works his butt off doing it.
I don’t see where Chuck Hagel has done any of those things.
