Barack Obama’s First Press Conference as President Elect Features a Dig at an Old Widow with a Broken Hip

Nice.

Obama says in his first post-election press conference that he’s spoken to all the former presidents — Carter, Bush, Clinton, as well as the current Bush — and, looser than he’s been in months, dares a joke at the expense of the widow of a deceased one.

“I have spoken to all of them who are living,” he says. “I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any séances,” he says.

He later called her to apologize for his crude and extremely disrespectful jibe. I don’t believe that anyone on the stage who laughed along with him, or any of the reporters in the room who enjoyed a little chortle at the expense of an 87 year-old widow laid up in bed with a broken hip.

For the record, though, Nancy Reagan never conducted any séances. She called an astrologer, desperate for any assurance that the husband who she loved with her whole heart and who had already been brought to death’s door by a madman, would come back home safe. That’s something that Barack Obama, for all the MSM’s hand-wringing this campaign season, has never been within a light year of facing himself. I doubt many of us would remain entirely rational in her situation, with the hounds of the MSM fueling the untrammeled hatred and derision of the left every single day, with honest to God enemies eager to put him in his grave. Oh I don’t know that any of us would not have turned to something just as silly as astrology to give us some reassurance that everything would turn out just fine and that our dearest love would survive his service to our country.

We’re in for a long, classless four years, folks.

And by the way, that shot at Nancy Reagan? It wasn’t a casual slip of the tongue. It was a boot to the ribs of already hurting Republicans. Not just a reminder of the one single incident that the left uses to try to discredit eight amazing years but a cheap dig at at Ronald Reagan’s wife. Consider it a not-so-subtle reminder from our new leader that it’s his house now.
