This has me well and truly ticked off. Watch this foul bully who calls herself a teacher browbeat a little girl into tears by flat-out lying to her. This woman should have been fired and forced to make a public apology in front of her students and their parents for betraying her trust. She is a disgrace and a perfect emblem of every single thing that’s wrong with our public school system.
What business does she have asking her students who they’re “pulling for”? What business does she have swearing (“oh Jesus…”) in front of her class? What business does she have lying to that little girl by telling her that John McCain will make her father stay in the military for a hundred years?
None at all. I only wish I were a parent with a child in that class. She thinks she’s Queen Bee now? Just wait until I had her smug ass dragged into the principal’s office to explain what in the blue hell she thought she was doing pushing her political views on my child. I would have made her freaking famous in about a second and a half.
The good news is that she hasn’t been a teacher in the Asheville, NC school system since 2004. The bad news is that she may be teaching somewhere else.
The most amazing part of the video, though, comes at the end when she tells the very same people who filmed her abusing her student that she never does what she knows damned well they just filmed her doing.

Ms. Harris teaches at Mary McArthur School in the military town of Fayetteville, NC. I called the local paper – The Observer – and was told they were doing a story on this. I’m sure the military families will be pleased to know their children are being indoctrinated into liberalism. Hooray … NOT!
can someoneplease find out where this lousy crappy teacher is now? She needs to work where her influence will not touch another child. I hope if she is teaching that she is monitored CLOSELY and does not push her liberal and wrong opinions on those who cannot defend themselves or our government. Shame on this woman.
What I don’t understand is if she hasn’t been a teacher in the Asheville, NC school system since 2004, how are they discussing the Mccain/Obama election? In 2004 they would have been discussing Bush/Kerry.
@christine –
My daughter was in her class last year when this was taped. My daughter heard her say to another child (who was black)YOU BETTER STEP YOU ACT UP! YOU DON’T WANT THESE WHITE KIDS DOING BETTER THEN YOU ON THE END OF YEAR TEST NOW DO YOU? I have always had a problem with this teacher. And I cant wait to see what is going to happen to her.
You can send this teacher a message at her current bob by going here:

5th grade teacher
She is a 5th grade teacher here…
http://www.mmes.ccs.k12.nc.us/
Feel free to email the Principal at that school and express your views.
When she asked the kid why the answer is the same as it is for all kids that age. ‘Because my parents do.’
There is no other answer for a 5th grader and they should be left alone. You teach them the process and how it works and leave it at that. Same for all grades, really. University as well.
Hey guys, thanks for the new information.
I will ask that you hold fire on those e-mails. According to Michelle Malkin, the superintendent in her district learned about the video about the same time as the rest of us. He has condemned what she did in a very straightfoward way and is conducting an investigation. Let’s give him the space to do that and if we don’t hear good results in a timely manner, then let the e-mailing resume.
But thank you for the enthusiasm. We simply can not allow teachers like Ms. Harris to operate as she has.
What a vile human being. She should be horsewhipped.
That kid didn’t cry at all. When accusing others of lying (such as this teacher), you might want to think about being honest yourself.
What a shame. The new America. She should be fired, but she won’t because the powers to be won’t have the nerve in this new America.
How would you like your children in this idiot’s class?
Take another look at that video and notice, in particular, the eyes of that little girl as the teacher lies to her about how John McCain would make her dad stay in the military for a hundred years. There are tears in her eyes.
My cousin used to teach in that school district. He got fired for teaching evolution as scientific fact. But you didn’t hear about that, did you? Apparently, it’s okay to push the conservative nonsense that evolution isn’t supported by science, but it’s not okay to defend science. His firing was so uncontroversial that it never made the news.
@fostert -
You’ll forgive me if I don’t exactly believe your story.
Fair enough, it’s impossible for me to prove that story without any press coverage. Outside of my cousin’s friends and family, nobody has heard the story. But we do know that the conservative movement has made a strong effort against the teaching of evolution in favor of three thousand year old opinion created by people who had vastly inferior scientific knowledge. That is well documented, and you know it. What bothers me about this is that we have a much better understanding of evolution than we do of gravity. But because gravity isn’t mentioned in the Bible, we’re allowed to teach it. Even worse, we teach Newton’s nonsense, which is obviously wrong. The trouble with science is that we rarely know what’s truly right, we only really know what’s truly wrong. Newton was wrong about gravity, but we still teach it. But then again, there is no accepted theory of gravity, so what else would we teach? I’m willing to teach Newton for the sake of expediency, but conservatives need to be willing to teach evolution. It has the backing of more than 95% of biologists, which makes it the theory in science with the strongest backing of the scientific community. There simply isn’t a theory of gravity that can muster more than 30% backing. Although you can get 100% support for the idea that Newton was wrong. But that might change with the LHC. If we find the Higgs Bozon, gravity theory might come a long way. Or its properties might be inconsistent with any theory we have now. That’s what makes science so exciting. You never know what to expect, and what you get is usually disturbing.
What’s your point?
Well, this women is reprehensible and should have been fired. But it’s not part of an organized effort to brainwash students. She’s just a rogue. The conservative effort is organized and has created well funded legal organizations to go to the courts on their behalf. You can complain all you want about rogue teachers, but you should acknowledge the organized effort to destroy objective education that conservatives are carrying out. The idea that empirical science should be subject to religious fiat is simply unacceptable. You wouldn’t like it if that religious fiat were coming from Islam or Hinduism, would you? It is no better when the religious fiat comes from Christianity. But that is exactly what conservative legal organizations want to impose. And we’ve already seen the court cases, so don’t say it’s not happening. Fortunately, they keep losing. And they should continue to do so. Teaching religious dogma as science is seriously destructive to our economic future.
As an educator, the most reprehensible part of what she did was betraying the trust she put forth when she told the kids it was “okay to be for McCain. Go ahead and express your opinion, it’s okay.” Then when they did, she cursed and told them why they shouldn’t vote for McCain. The look on that little girl’s face made my stomach clench. No child of ANY race should be made to feel that way at school. School should be safe and secure, and a place where you feel acceptance.
To the credit of all the children, they looked uncomfortable, too. Our children give our future hope. I think you could tell that they knew what was going on was wrong. This woman should be reprimanded severely.
Amen,Lisa.
So, how do you feel about the teacher who wrote C.H.A.N.G.E. – “Come Help A N*gg*r Get Elected” on his dry erase board?? Probably want him to stay on board eh?
Seems to me from an interview with the parents and child that they weren’t offended at all, and we ALL know how videos can be edited now don’t we? Unfortunately, what she said is the truth. Although, I know she regrets even saying it, even if it was jokingly, it’s true.
As a teacher you cannot influence your opinions, only the facts. That I agree with. But fired? No. She wasn’t browbeating. Just poor judgement.
Now the teacher, who clearly made racist (which is hateful, in case you didn’t know)statement on a chalkboard, let’s talk about firing him. Yeah.
Does that NOT have you in an uproar? *smh*
Yes, she should be fired. She abused her position and her power. Period.
As for anyone else, deal with them, too. But this teacher abused her students. She is not fit to stand in a classroom.
How many teachers’ unions endorsed McCain?
Did I miss the rally?? I thought I was on the mailing list…quick, send me the details so I can go support this obviously conservative teacher who called Obama a nigger in his class.
Right…
He should be fired too, along with the “Christian” teacher who told her students there was no Santa Clause, the teacher who took her students to her gay wedding and fostert’s cousin who thinks his daddy was a monkey, but I’m not sure what that has to do with the price of eggs….
Tears or no tears, that so called teacher was completely out of line the way she imposed her political views on that child. Who does she think she is intimidating that poor little girl who cant defend herself. Maybe she can try and intimidate an adult, might not go so well for her. What a hateful human being she is, and if you want to talk “racism”, boy, it’s written all over her. What a poor excuse for a teacher and how embarrassing to the teachers that are dedicated and qualified educators. I guess that is why I home school my son, to keep him away from people like this so called teachers.
What facts, exactly?
There is no excuse for this I was raised in Fayetteville city schools this is NOT the exception as a hispanic/white male now in my 30s I have seen this sort of bulling countless times. My family moved around town alot so i went to a few schools most of the black women teachers 40ys plus are from the south and grew up being discrimated against and are still bitter about it(sad but true)and think they have a right to say what they please. Our black University will hand out a diploma to anyone this lady sounds retarded (“oh jesus”)
