Wow….I had no idea he was even sick.
Top-selling author Michael Crichton has reportedly died of cancer in Los Angeles.
A posting on Crichton’s official website says that the author “died unexpectedly” after a “courageous and private battle against cancer” on Nov. 4.
I really enjoyed Crichton’s books – Jurassic Park and Rising Sun were among the most entertaining stories I have ever read. I think it’s a shame that none of his stories ever made decent movies, though. Rising Sun in particular carried a history and current events lesson that was as well-written as the mystery that served to propel the story forward.
Crichton was not merely a good author with a real knack for selling his stories to Hollywood but also a thorough thinker and one of the leading voices against the “consensus” that has formed around global warming. His speech “Aliens cause global warming” is one of the most devastating and enjoyable speeches on the matter I have ever read. I recommend it highly.
My condolences to Crichton’s family and friends. I am sorry he is gone.
