Sarah Palin Hung in Effigy and the AP Has No Opinion.

| October 27, 2008 | Comments (4)

You might recall this article from not quite a week ago in which the AP cited three incidents to prove that “scattered ugly incidents have reflected a deep residue of racism among some segments of white America”.

A cardboard likeness of Barack Obama was found strung from fishing wire at a university, the Democratic presidential nominee’s face was depicted on mock food stamps, the body of a black bear was left at another university with Obama posters attached to it.
[Emphasis Mine]

So if a cardboard likeness of Barack Obama strung up with wire is a sign of “a deep residue of racism” what, exactly, would the AP call a mannequin dressed like Sarah Palin hung by a noose?

The jackass responsible for it calls it “art”. The AP, for a change, has no opinion at all.

I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for an article citing the numerous “ugly incidents” of Palin-hate as a “deep residue of misogyny” among some segments of progressive America. The MSM just doesn’t roll that way.

Seeing as how the residents of this house seem to be craving more attention, perhaps they would appreciate a postcard or two letting them know exactly what the rest of America thinks of their antics.

That would be the residents of 1253 N Orange Grove Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90046 (thanks, Google).

    Just FYI.

I'm a liberal Democrat who doesn't like Palin, but this sort of thing seems like it should be illegal. If it is a form of speech, it's not a protected form of speech, because it's very close to a death threat. My father was an elected official (also a Democrat!) I inherited a love of the Bill of Rights, particularly the "right to offend" from him. And he never thought he was above criticism and was never afraid of it. But as his daughter I grew to believe strongly that there has to be a limit on explicit death threats, even in jest or art, against public officials.

The thing of it is Virginia, is getting the government involved will almost certainly be a loser w/ unintended consequences. Govt. can only restrict the "right"…they can't instill the responsibility that should accompany that right. And if they restrict the right, they restrict it for both the responsible citizens & the irresponsible.

These types of things used to be controlled through peer and/or family pressure. You didn't do something this stupid because you would embarrass your family & none of your neighbors would speak to you; because you have done something so outlandish & immature. Public shame was not such a bad thing compared to the apparent lack of shame we see now. It was a great regulator of behavior. In this case, the two men have traded their sense of responsiblity for the infantile pleasure of having all the public's attention. Not sure writing letters to them would help; it would just feed into what they seem to be enjoying already.

Palin's a good looking woman, but I think looks alone aren't really enough to qualify you as the leader of the free world. An a non-american, I'm glad that the republicans got beat, I have no real issue with McCain, but god forbid something should happen to him and Palin ends up the most powerful person on the planet!
