Barack Obama and Joe Biden have been running across this country from end to end telling anyone who’ll listen how John McCain and Sarah palin have been inciting their crowds to violence. Reuters, the latest mouthpiece to speak for the Democratic ticket, warns that “Ugly election incidents show lingering U.S. racism” and cites three incidents.

A cardboard likeness of Barack Obama was found strung from fishing wire at a university, the Democratic presidential nominee’s face was depicted on mock food stamps, the body of a black bear was left at another university with Obama posters attached to it.

Oh, the horror. His face was put on food stamps? My goodness. The Republic is crumbling before the vicious hordes of inbred Amerikkkans!

On the other hand, there are real crimes that have been committed against people whose only act of “instigation” was to temerity to put a John McCain bumper sticker on their car or march in a support rally.

Today, the ante was definitely raised.

A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.

[Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane] Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim’s car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter “B” into her face, Richard said.

Hope? Change?

Yeah, I’ll bet there was a lot of that happening in front of that ATM, most in the form of that young woman hoping that the Obama-supporting criminal didn’t change her face permanently with his knife.

UPDATE: I just remembered this story from last month. Obama told his supporters to argue with their neighbors and “get in their face”. I’d say that scratching the first initial of your candidates name into a McCain’s supporter’s cheek qualifies, don’t you? I knife does make for an effective tool of argument.

Ace is leaning heavily toward the skeptical, as is Ed Morrissey. Not me. Nine crimes committed in the name of Barack Obama a month after he told supporters to get in the faces of the people around them is not even remotely coincidental in my mind. Add to that the MSM’s constant drumbeat of how tense this election is getting and how McCain supporters are going to be the ones to snap and it’s not at all hard to believe that this woman was assaulted because of her bumper sticker.

  1. [...] Bise is angry and disinclined to skepticism just [...]

  2. fostert says:

Color me skeptical. I work with surgeons, and not one of them has the skill to carve a ‘B’ that accurately to into a struggling person. Sure, they could easily do it on a sedated patient, but not one that’s fighting them at the time. It’s hard for me to agree with Michelle Malkin, but I’ll do it if she’s right. And she is.

But even if this is real, how does it compare to the murder of Arkansas Democratic Chairman Bill Gwatney? Or the murders of Unitarian church goers in Knoxville? When you conservatives stop murdering us, I’ll cry a tear for you. But that day will never come, will it?

  3. Jimmie says:

I’m assuming she’s not struggling. Why would she be? And surgeons use a tool that’s made to cut. The mugger was most likely using one made to stab.

  4. Jimmie says:

There was no evidence that Gawtney’s murder was politically-motivated. Indeed, his killer sought him out specifically and did not shoot a whole lot of other people he had to walk by to get to him.

As for the Unitarians, I grieved over that shooting. But you simply can not use that to balance the number of other instances of left-wing political violence. You are not allowed to play the angry victim here.

  5. Harold says:

I will note that this is not like the Tawana Brawley case, because there is an awful lot of skepticism on the part of conservatives about the attack. In the TB case, all liberals jumped on the bandwagon immediately, and stayed there even after the fishy smell started to stink.

  6. Tom says:

You say, “You are not allowed to play the angry victim here.”

Why does any healthy person want to play the victim? This will turn out to be a hoax. I have seen 4 “attacks” by “right wing bigots” at my Liberal College. Twice the “victim” had wounds and was a lesbian, including one poor girl who threw herself down a staircase to get the requisite wounds. We had silly candle light vigils and marches for “healing” and “acceptance”.

Well most people do accept others. Self pity is fun, I guess, but living like a victim-free life is what we are born to do.

But if conservatives want to “play the angry victim here’ go ahead. It is sad, however, to want to be a victim. I would rather declare that we are endowed by our Creator with inalienable rights and fight for them.

But if that is what you want, I will and do feel sorry for you. I sure hope you enjoy playing the angry victim.

  7. Rachel says:

Tawana Brawley?? This had “Richard Jewell” all over it. Look at all the know-it-all suddenly becoming CSI-wannabes and accusing the victim of a crime first instead of finding the supposed assailant. What if it did happen? Will y’all apologize or slink back to where you came from?
I’m with Jimmie on this one. Let the police determine the evidence before we condemn this woman. Wayyy too many unannounce crimes against both Mc and O supporters are occurring to run this one off. And I’m planning to write in my candidates.

  8. Henry says:

    @Jimmie

When more evidence comes out, it will be revealed as a hoax. Anyone who can get hit by a 6′ 4″ black man and have no swelling after is someone whose got some pretty tough skin. Backwards B? She probably did it in the mirror and that’s why it came out backwards. Dullknife? Sure… How many muggers are going to go out with the wrong tools. Even a dullknife is going to look more like a scratch.

Plus the fact that she refused immediate medical attention is pretty suspect. If I was beat down by a 6′4″ black man, I would want medical attention. I’d make sure my orbit or ribs weren’t fractured.

This election has gone too far. People say that America has changed. Being a minority myself, I can attest that it has changed since my parents immigrated here in the 70s. But lo and behold, even one of my fellow residents likes to put down African Americans.

I’m betting on Obama to win but God help us all when he does because radical conservative elements are going to be pissed and it only takes one to do something stupid like try to shoot Obama. And if Obama loses despite winning in the exit polls, I’m willing to bet that the LA riots after the Rodney King trial is going to look like recess at the local day care center.

Thank you, RNC, for sowing the seeds of hate and divisiveness in this campaign. Dead bears with Barack signs? What’s next? A dead African American? A dead Asian American? A dead Mexican American? When will all this hate end?

  9. Jimmie says:

Henry, only one campaign has has its bus shot at and it wasn’t the Obama campaign.

  10. Dave Towers says:

The merits of the case aside (which I believe to be an increasingly obvious hoax), I have seen multiple headlines referring to the alleged victim as “maimed” and even “mutilated”. Talk about dishonest and inflammatory terms… she appears mildly bruised and scratched at best.

  11. Dave Towers says:

“Henry, only one campaign has has its bus shot at and it wasn’t the Obama campaign”

Actually, 0 campaigns have had their bus shot at, since that is an unsupported smear with absolutely no credible evidence. The campaign denies it, the police never heard of it, but you swallow it hook line and sinker…

  12. Jimmie says:

    @Dave Towers -

There are witness accounts. You do understand that the local police wouldn’t investigate that, right?

I’m learning that you guys on the left come with a lot of bravado much not much knowledge, so I need to make sure you know the obvious things, like that the Secret Service (which is not especially fond of advertising its investigations until they are well over with) would investigate if a candidate’s campaign bus was shot.

  13. Sharlene says:

Well, apparently it seems like she lied about the whole thing according to the Pitsburgh chanel 4 news. I have also provided a link to the article. Once again the right wing over-zealouts stoop to new lows to make a point and the tall black men of America are left looking like the maniacs.

  14. Jimmie says:

    @Sharlene -

Sharlene, you may, of course, kiss the whitest part of my backside per the post I wrote not even 30 minutes ago.

  15. Steve says:

The “victim” admitted she lied Jimmie, nice try though. Shows just how desperate Republicans are getting

  16. Jimmie says:

Sure, Steve. After all, it’s not like there hasn’t been plenty of other crimes against McCain supporters.

  17. Michelle says:

Jimmie = egg on the face. Big time

  18. Heath says:

Ha. Typical. Spend 24 hours arguing vehemently for something- and then, once proven wrong, try to change the subject completely. It looks like McCain’s campaign is influencing Americans after all.

  19. Jimmie says:

    Argue vehemently?

    Okay, here’s a challenge.

Show me where I asserted that the accusation was most definitely true.

Alternately, show me where I did not allow for the story to be false.

    I’ll be waiting.

  20. Jimmie says:

Okay, commenters, here’s the rule in this thread from here on out. Argue against what I actually said, not what you think I said.

That the story turned out to be a hoax in no way means that the story was not plausible. That this story came after nine other crimes against McCain supporters does not mean that the nine others did not happen.

As I said in my post today, batting .100 does not entitle you to a victory dance.

I expect a modicum of intelligence here, even from the Obama faithful.

If you can’t play by the rules, I’ll shut the comments down.

  21. Thor Hyerdahl says:

    IDIOTS!!

  22. Timmie says:

Plausible? That a woman could be robbed at an ATM? Sure. That a ‘B’ would be cut into her face over political beliefs? Take your head out of McCain’s bum for 30 seconds to get some fresh air, man. Sheesh.

  23. RU Kidding? says:

The fact that it was hoax goes to the heart if the issue.
The story was flogged by the right even before the allegations were confirmed.

“Play by the rules…” My aunt fanny.

  24. Rush Sullivan says:

Its good to see that people are still looking for excuses for the behavior of people across this country directed at Obama. There is no excuse for calling him a terrorist, hanging his cardboard cutout, and even more recently plotting to kill him. This woman was proven to be lying through her teeth, but the McCain brigade will jump on anything to make it seem like its happening on both sides. Stunts like this are a direct result of the extremist propoganda and fearmongering perpetrated by the McCain campaign, and no matter what happens in the election, McCain’s image will be forever tarnished in my eyes.

  25. Jimmie says:

And yet, Mr Sullivan, there are nine other incidents of crimes against McCain supporters that did in fact happen. You seem to be fine with that, though.

  26. Alan says:

Unfortunately you site did not permit my previous post to be displayed.
Your attempt to pin the blame on Obama for the actions of these individuals biased and sad since there were as many politically motivated crimes committed against Obama supporters.

  27. Mike Levens says:

    Two sentences:

    a) When the story broke, it was legitimate to claim that the actions of one violent thug, acting alone, were in any way representative of the Obama campaign, or of his supporters in general. (or if you prefer, ten thugs in ten isolated crimes)

    b) When the story is revealed as a hoax, it is legitimate to claim that the actions of one lying, victimhood-obsessed campaign worker, acting alone, are representative of the McCain campaign, or of his supporters in general.

As I see it, you must either accept both of these or reject both. So which is it? Were you wrong to suggest that the fictitious attacker was an example of how Obama’s campaign is violent and hateful, or would I be right to suggest that Todd’s actions are an example of the McCain campaign’s dishonest rhetorical strategy?
