Come to Think of It, I’m Feeling a Bit “Non-Filerish”, too.

I have the feeling that if Barack Obama’s elected President, we’re going to see this reach epidemic proportion.

Gov. Paterson’s chief of staff now says he owed nearly $300,000 in back taxes, $100,000 more than was previously known – and his lawyer blamed the problem on “non-filer syndrome.”

Charles O’Byrne’s attorney, Richard Kestenbaum, mentioned the virtually unheard-of ailment at a briefing for reporters intended to quell the firestorm surrounding O’Byrne’s failure to file income-tax returns from 2001 to 2005.

O’Byrne, 49, a former Jesuit priest with close ties to the Kennedy family, has already blamed his neglect to file – first reported by The Post – on clinical depression.

Kestenbaum said yesterday O’Byrne also had “non-filer syndrome.”

“Many times, that syndrome causes them not to be able to file their tax returns,” he explained.

O’Byrne is the Chief of Staff of New York Governor David Patterson, a Democrat.

Tut tut, Governor. It looks bad for the cause when your own government fatcats balk at forking over their cash so the disadvantaged mouthbreathers in flyover country don’t have to live in mud huts and eat ramen noodles all the livelong day?

There was a Steve Martin bit from yesteryear about how he wouldn't pay his taxes and if anyone said anything he would say, "Hey, I forgot." But this guy isn't even saying that. Apparently he is saying that paying taxes is too traumatic an experience for him. Since he seems to be in Barry's gunsites taxwise he had better butch it up or is there a loophole somewhere I don't know about?
