Cracks in the Obama Armor: Voinovich Calls Him a Socialist

| October 18, 2008 | Comments (1)

If George Voinovich feels comfortable enough to call Barack Obama a socialist right out in the open, you know he has real problems.

Here is the quote from Voinovich, reported on first today by the Daily Sentinel of Pomeroy, Ohio, during a visit he made to the Meigs County GOP headquarters.

The paper reported that: “In relation to Obama, Voinovich told the audience: ‘He is left of (Democratic senator from Massachusetts) Teddy Kennedy. With all due respect, the man is a socialist.’”

Let’s review Voinovich’s Greatest Hits from the last couple of years. He not only opposed the surge but suggested that we pull troops out of Iraq. He was reduced to tears by the nomination of John Bolton and voted against his confirmation in committee even though he attended only committee meeting on the matter. He not only voted against making the Bush tax cuts permanent, but was the first Republican to threaten to vote against the entire budget bill. His ACU rating in 2007 was a 48, the second-lowest of any Republican Senator, including the notably unconservative John McCain. He supported the immigration “shamnesty” bill.

He is hardly an ideologue. He is almost the perfect representative for the center-left, anti-war electorate in this country.

If he feels comfortable calling Barack Obama a socialist, then the Obamessiah could be in real big trouble.

I think Voinovich meant it as a compliment.
