I know a lot of folks have faith in his claim that he'll reduce government spending. My problem is that he's shown no sign of that in h is years as a Senator. No one's been able to show me any legislation where he's tried to take down spending. No one can point me to a time when he put together a bipartisan coalition, then went to the President and told him to veto a spending bill with confidence that it would be upheld. He's never put anything on the line on that subject.

I don't have much faith in John McCain's ability to govern as anything but a left-leaning moderate, which is clearly distasteful to me. I would jsut as soon have a real leftist in the White House against whom more Republicans in Congress would fight.

But I do know that John McCain won't allow what Barack Obama has allowed. He won't let his followers drag us into overt fascism without trying his darndest to stop it.

That's the most important thing to me at this point.

Like yourself, McCain was not my first or second choice. But looking at what's left, the choice of McCain over any of the other choices is best bar none. On the issues most important to me (national security and taxation/gov't spending), McCain fits the bill. Other areas, I guess I'm going to have to bite my tongue. There's no such thing as a perfect candidate and until northern VA becomes a little more purple, writing to my Congressional representation is an exercise in futility.

Having read your latest post, I'm glad to see you've finally come to that decision. It's a shame it took such extreme measures (although that's usually the catalyst). Hopefully others will as well and provide a victory in November (I'm not holding my breath though…)
