ACORN Continues Its Destructive Work and the MSM Continues to Miss the Point

ACORN’s job of destroying our electoral system continues apace and the MSM, thanks to a clueless streak the size of a brontosaurus, is telling us that it’s no big deal. Here’s the latest from The Politico.
Rick Hasen, a professor specializing in election law at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, agreed that criticism of ACORN’s registration activities was overblown, noting that there is a crucial difference between voter registration fraud, which merely involves submitting dishonest registration papers, but not actually casting a bogus ballot, and voter impersonation fraud.
And here’s another story, via Glenn Reynolds:
The ACORN shenanigans likely won’t rise to actual voting fraud, stressed election law expert Terri Enns at Ohio State University.
“ACORN’s problematic registrations create extra work for election boards, because they have to check them, but it’s not double voting,” she said.
And another via Jonathan Adler:
Even as Cuyahoga County digs deeper into possible fraud by a voter-registration group, election board members from both political parties maintain that any problems uncovered will not compromise the presidential election.
Board members say proof of voter-registration fraud does not mean illegal ballots will be cast on Nov. 4.
Let me restate something I said in this post. ACORN has no intention for these illegal registrations to be voted on election day. Its aim is to create a crisis of confidence in our electoral system so that later it can claim that the system is “broken”. That goal is coming along quite nicely. The New York Times sets it up for us:
Still, because Democrats have been more aggressive at registering new voters this year, according to state election officials, any heightened screening of new applications may affect their party’s supporters disproportionately.
Let me remind you that the primary reason that heightened screening exists is because of rampant ACORN registration fraud in 2004 election. How’s our confidence in the election? Well, let’s ask this former judge (via Stacy McCain).
Former state Supreme Court Justice Sandra Newman said Friday she has no confidence in the integrity of the electoral process in Pennsylvania as a result of the extensive voter registration effort by a community group with ties to Barack Obama.
I’d say that ACORN is right on track. The question is, when will the MSM bother to look through the cacophany to see ACORN’s real goals. After all, it’s not like they’re hidden or anything. At this point, though, it seems like journalists would much rather do the lazy work of blowing the story off as just Republicans overreaction rather than to dig into ACORN at all.
Let me say it again. The entire reason ACORN was founded was to overload our governmental systems so that the progressives could claim them broken and replace them with something of their own devising. I wish I were making this up but I’m not. The sooner we take the progressives at their word, the sooner we can save our fundamental democratic institutions. Right now our election system is under deliberate attack. Those who run ACORN could fix their system to weed out the fraudulent applications. They have had years to do so but they will not because their system is producing exactly the results they intend.
A little more of this wouldn’t be bad either.
