Hey Guys? Relax.

The Dow is down almost 700 within a blink of opening this morning. Allah is nearly ready to leap out the nearest window, and he’s hardly alone.

So, with the end of the world looking us right in the eyes, I’m going to give you some advice I’ve never given before.

Shut off your computer. Stop reading the blogs today. Don’t bother with the evening news either.

Go outside today. Head down to the deli and buy a good sandwich and an iced tea then walk over to the park. Grab a spot on the park bench and enjoy your lunch. Spare some bread for the pigeons. If you’re a guy, spend a few minutes watching the pretty girls walk by. If you’re not, there has to be some similarly pleasing activity. Say Hi to a stranger and give them a smile. Enjoy the fall day and the bright sunshine and don’t listen to the panicmongers.

Right now there is one thing, and only one thing, that can destroy our economy and that’s foolish actions by our government spurred by our panic. Our economy is strongstrong like bull! – and it will continue to be strong so long as we take these bad times in stride. Resist the temptation to do anything rash, including letting our politicians turn a temporary downward slide into a full-blown multi-year Depression like FDR did.

Go outside. Unplug from the screamers and fretters. We’ve survived worse. We’ll be just fine after this is done.

Oh, and hey. If you plan on doing a little Amazon shopping, why not do it from here? Or take a look at the really sweet Amazon Prime program and sign up for a free month. You can dump it if you don’t like it. Either one would help my local economy.

I was shocked yesterday to hear on CNN some sage words of wisdom on this topic. Lou Dobbs took to task the President, the leaders of the House and Senate and the campaigns for their unconscionable "talking down the economy". The fact that the Dems are doing this for political gain is an echo of the comments by Dem leaders a year ago that losing in Iraq would yield the Dems more seats in Congress.

They are totally indifferent to the damage to this country from their partisan efforts – all that matters is that they further consolidate political power. And these are the people that a lot of voters want to further entrench in our government.

    Sickening…absolutely sickening.

That's good advice Jimmie. Sometimes you just need to walk away. As much as I love to stay up on what's going on, I just need a break sometimes. Last night I actually watched regular TV. Then spent some time on the deck with a glass of wine. It was nice!
