What could possibly give me that impression?

It’s creepy all right. And this isn’t an isolated incident.

UPDATE: Oh, nice. It turns out that this “organic”, homespun, grassroots effort is the doing of the head of NBC/Universal. I guess making them wear armbands with the Obama symbol on them might have been a bit too much?

UPDATE 2: The Anchoress has already gotten the obligatory, “Oh yeah! Well what about religion!” e-mail. I like her answer (and her entire post is worth reading) but I would ask when, exactly, the progressive left thought it was A-OK to emulate religious ceremonies. I kind of thought that religion was something we beknighted boobs had to cling to because Big Mommy Government was neglecting us.

Of course, the real answer is that religion is just fine with the progressives, so long as its their religion of big government. It doesn’t require that you do a lot of work to learn that. In fact, someone has done all the heavy lifting for you already.
