I wonder how much money these musicians lost by not removing the stick from their backsides?
Ann and Nancy Wilson are pissed at the Republican Party and have fired off a cease and desist letter to the McCain/Palin campaign.
Specifically, the Heart women are upset that the GOP has used their classic “Barracuda” as a theme song for Sarah Palin.
It’s a shame that art has to play second fiddle to silly political fits of pique.

You know what? I saw a report after they played a Van Halen song that the band said the same thing. That they didn't give permission and wouldn't have given permission if asked….because they are not political.
Part of me wants to understand – if they are really trying to stay out of the political arena (which would be wise since that doesn't always result in more album sales…think Dixie Chicks).
But then the other side of me just wants to say "get over yourselves!" I mean why can't they just come out & say, we are not supporting any political candidate but we don't care who buys or plays our music?
Nancy Wilson did give a fuller explanation about how the song’s true meaning was utterly lost on the R’s:
““Sarah Palin’s views and values in no way represent us as American women. The song ‘Barracuda’ was written in the late ’70s as a scathing rant against the soulless, corporate nature of the music business, particularly for women. While Heart did not and would not authorize the use of their song at the RNC, there’s irony in Republican strategists’ choice to make use of it there.””
You know what’s funny? That Nancy Wilson even thinks anybody cares what the song is about. I had the album, later bought the CD…now it’s on my ipod. I have probably sung along with it thousands of times….until now, I couldn’t have told you what the song was about. A barracuda…I know that much.
I’m sure the song has deep meaning for Heart, but the Repubs use of it was not an “ode to Heart” nor their cause….it was an ode to a tough lady who was given a nick-name of a vicious fish….which happens to be the same name of a very cool song.
