MaxedOutMama gets very, very close to another big reason I like Sarah Palin:
Finally, someone who’s one of us. Finally a political woman who is like the women I know in real life. A woman who wouldn’t have hysterics if offered deer meat, a woman who hasn’t acquired the weary, traumatized Ivy ennui and distaste for real life and real people. A woman who understands it’s a problem if truckers can’t make a living and people can’t stay warm in the winter. A woman who’s shriekingly Middle America and middle class, and would sit down and have a cup of coffee with her plumber. A woman who’d date a plumber.
It’s been a very long time since we had a national candidate who was anything close to an average American. Even John McCain, who compared to Barack Obama and Joe Biden simply reeks of everyman, is as far removed from a guy like me as I am from a Bichon Frise.
Sarah Palin is the real deal (even without Sarah Palin nude pictures or Sarah Palin swimsuit pics). She has lived life the way most of us have. She’s worried about making ends meet. She’s worked hard all week and spent the weekend having fun. She’s dealt with tough family decisions. She’s been decidedly and refreshingly normal.
More importantly to me is that she hasn’t spent most of her adult life marinating in politics. For her, political office is something you do for a little while then you stop doing it to do more important stuff like hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and spending time with your family and friends. She hasn’t spend thirty years cozying up to assorted crooks, bigots, and money men in a single minded effort to get to the White House. She hasn’t spent over half her life in the rarefied air of the US Senate, with all its perks and power. She ran for city council because she was tired of high taxes. She ran for Governor because she was sick and tired of rampant corruption. Her life in politics hasn’t been about her. It’s been about getting something accomplished, then getting back to the stuff that really matters to most of us.
In fact, I’ll bet that if she doesn’t become the Vice President, she won’t shed a tear. She’ll go back to her life and be as happy as she was before John McCain came calling.

This is going to be fun. History will be made, one way or another, and it looks more likely now that it will be the right history.
Even more Hillary supporters will go for McCain now. Obama is no longer a near certainty. Heaven forbid something happens to McCain, but I believe Palin would rise to the occasion. She has the right attitude. Everyone knows Obama is NOT ready for POTUS, Palin is only for the VP. Look at Dan Quayle.

And she’s a Hotty to boot! SCORE! The Left is going to go nuts! SCORE!

A fresh face, thats real. I’m glad and excited that McCain picked Palin. She’s new and exciting. Many people thought that picking an older women already in politics should have been the choice. WHO? Kay Baily? Please! Eliz. Dole, Never! Palin is the all American girl. Look at what the Dems. have produced! Pelosi, Clinton and the hags they hamg out with. The leftest women don’t like her because she’s genuine and beautiful. They even hate themselves. SAD!!!!!
You have captured the exact same thoughts that crossed my mind. I’m a USNA grad and ex nuclear submarine officer, and I take my hat off to John McCain for this inspired pick. If she and Sen. McCain can withstand the broadside from the haters, they have the potential to heal the country.
Common sense and pragmatism vs dogma will hopefully win the day.
