Fred Thompson? While You’re at It, Wish for a Pony.
Rand Simberg says that Fred Thompson as Vice President is about the only thing that will get him to vote “for” John McCain as opposed to “against” Obama.
Note to Simberg, John McCain doesn’t care why you vote for him, so long as you do. Right now, he has conservatives over a barrel and he knows it. He knows that, for the most part, conservatives will fall right in line because they’re scared spitless of a Barack Obama presidency. Johnny Mac couldn’t care less whether you’re excited about him or not so long as you vote for him.
Because, you know, he’s a maverick. Can’t get good maverick cred by making a conservative happy, not in any way at all.
Glenn Reynolds says, “Well, possibly…” but he knows as well as I do that there’s no way on God’s green Earth that John McCain will choose a conservative old guy as a running mate. Ain’t gonna happen.
