Shocker: MS-NBC Gives Another News Show to a Leftist
By Jimmie on Aug 19, 2008 in Oh, THAT liberal media.
Well, surprise, surprise. MS-NBC is replacing sort-of lefty Dan Abrams with the real deal, Keith Olbermann-approved Rachel Maddow. She’s there, we’re told, to combat the right-leaning slant of the Fox News Channel.
Mr. Olbermann’s emergence as the signature personality on the network has led to an unofficial rebranding of MSNBC as the liberal alternative to Fox News, which is dominated by conservative hosts like Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity.
The only problem with that is that Fox’s News coverage is objectively more “fair and balanced” than any other network. In addition, Fox’s evening lineup is broken after Hannity and Colmes by Greta Susteren, who is anything but conservative. Maddow’s show will add a third hour to MS-NBC’s leftathon that already included Chris “Thrill up my leg” Matthews and Olbermann.
The other essential difference is that Fox News does not portray Hannity’s show (where he appears with left-wing Alan Colmes) nor Bill O’Reilly’s show as news. They are opinion shows and where Hannity does appear in a newscaster role, Colmes is right there with him to provide the balance.
(via memeorandum)

I know everyone says Greta is liberal. But I am not sure how they come to this conclusion given that most of her shows are regarding crimes & criminal law, etc.
Also, did you see any of her coverage on North Korea (posted on her blog)? She went over there with Rev. Franklin Graham for a tour. Her comments about everything she was seeing was surprisingly sober & honest for someone in the media. In fact, she seemed to make certain that nothing good passed her lips that wasn’t followed by an ominous warning that they are communists. I mean, it was almost comical the way she would always throw in that qualifier….kind of the way I would have done it.
Sorry, to veer off topic, but I just thought this was noteworthy….especially now seeing how NBC is covering China.

I’d say Greta is, if anything a faintly left-leaning moderate. From what I’ve seen, she’s socially to the left but pretty strict on law and order matters.

In other words, she’s not a nutjob.

Come on do you really think Fox News is fair and balanced?? What Fox News are you watching? Those guys don’t do there research and when they have guess that disagree with them they shout or over talk them. They want to be heard but not listen and you think thats fair?

Dunk – You could be describing the shows on the other networks, at least the ones that have guests. Have you watched Chris Matthews lately?
However, the studies to which I linked involved news broadcasts, the programs that are supposed to be fairly presented. On those, Fox is far more evenhanded than any other network.
