CNN’s Rick Sanchez: Throwing Away His Integrity for Barack Obama

| August 18, 2008 | Comments (26)

Say what you want about the media these days, but you can’t say that they suffer from any sort of attention-deficit problems. Over the weekend, the Obama campaign gave made the infantile accusation that John McCain must have cheated to beat their man in Rick Warren’s hugfest “debate” based on absolutely no evidence at all. Andrea Mitchell couldn’t wait to be the first out of the box with it.

Sunday Night, CNN’s Rick Sanchez decided he couldn’t leave Mitchell out there all alone so he decided to double down and call Rick Warren a liar right to his face. Warren had jokingly said during the event that john McCain was in a “cone of silence” when in reality he spent about a half-hour in a limousine surrounded by Secret Service agents before he got to the secured Green Room. This was proof positive to Sanchez that a nefarious scheme was afoot.

Well, there was a little monkey business on Warren’s part, but it didn’t involve McCain. Warren told Sanchez that he gave Barack Obama an extra question ahead of time and admitted that the question probably threw off Johnny Mac because he hadn’t been hip to it. Warren said,

“…I also told Senator Obama, since there was one question where I was going to ask for a commitment, it was the commitment later about would you allow a PEPFAR type president’s emergency plan for orphans, and I thought if I was going to ask them for a public commitment, I ought to let him know in advance. I got to tell Barack Obama that in advance. I did not get to tell John McCain that in advance. It caught him by surprise, I’m sure.”

How did Sanchez react to this?

I mean, just out of fairness. I mean, look, this is CNN. We try to be as exact as we possibly can. I just wanted to get it on the record, and, of course, there’s going to be people out there, pastor, who are going to say, well, if he wasn’t there, like a half-hour before the event started, what would have stopped him from watching an event that was on all three channels, on the radio, there’s Blackberries, there’s the Internet. There’s everything else. So, I guess you don’t know and I don’t know whether he had the questions or not.

Warren then said that he had asked McCain point blank if he had heard any of Obama’s interview and he said that he had not. As far as he was concerned, that was enough for him. Sanchez responded, snidely,

Well, yes, and let’s be fair. We called Senator McCain’s office and they said that, no, we did not listen. We did not know. So what you’re saying is part of that, we’re just going to have to go on the honor system, and we certainly respect that –

Rick Sanchez is a dirty, rotten liar. He most certainly does not respect John McCain’s honor. If he had, he would have never even begun the line of questioning. He would have laughed it off like it deserved. I very much hope that someone forwards this to him and he reads it. I would love to hear why he felt the need to push an unsubstantiated rumor so far that he impugned the integrity of two good men without a shred of evidence that they had done anything untoward.

If CNN had any interest in being a fair reporter of the news, it would discipline Sanchez and publish an apology for what he did to Rick Warren and John McCain.

He didn't like the "Truth" about Obama getting a heads up because it didn't fit in with what he wanted to confirm. Rick Sanchez and the Liberal wankers "Can't ever seem to handle the truth. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamen.

rick sanchez should go home and save cuba. His

far left socialism is part of the CNN program.

Rick is a very angry man who smiles too much and thinks he is putting one over on the American public. His agenda is for people of color to take over and put whitty in his place..I am sure he has read the "Obama Nation" by Corsi, a PHD from Harvard, who did a very detailed background check on Obama..this will blow you away and not a word from CNN

  14. I am wondering, after reading this blog, is there going to be a point where McCain and his campaign is forced to apologizefor the litany of snander and half-truths they have flung out at Obama? It hasbeen disgusting and I m ashamed to say he is my senator.

    Spread Ideas, not Fear dirt.com

  15. Art says:

    @Robert Operts

Cnn's Rick Sanchez is a wise guy…Listen to his interviews and you'll see that he is not worthy to be on a national stage…

  16. Bob Sanchez says:

    Rick

I am so glad you pinned "Joe the Plumber" down.

He lied about his status, he is not even a licensed plumber, plus he also owes back taxes.

His crediability stinks. I am so glad you did this. But again this is another Republican tactic. What this country needs is an honest man like Obama to change all the bad doings that the Bush administration has done. We certainly don't need McCain to continue where Bush left off.

  17. ADP says:

I have seen Rich Sanchez on CNN many times. He is not just a self-righteous anti-white immigrant protecting clown, he is also a moron. "He threw away his integrity"… you must be kidding. Does this argument not make the assumption that this man had integrity to begin with?

  18. Arthur Fisher says:

Why are you not covering the story about the 8 year old boy who shot and killed two people in Arizona and now they have charged him with 2 counts of murder and want to try him as an adult. He is only 8 what is really behind this story. CNN should be all over this. I think this country is to power hungry to kill or convict whomever they can. When do we stand up and help the children of our country.

  19. lb in Florida says:

Rick Sanchez – Wise? You must be kidding. Idiot and obnoxious is more like it. I can't even believe he is Cuban. Why is he here? He is so obviously liberal and supports socialist views. He should go back to Cuba. All of my Cuban friends here disown him. Fair and balanced? Not him and not anyone on CNN. It has become impossible to watch anyone on CNN because it has become a Democrat lovefest. IT is time to change the channel.

  20. 28 in the South says:

Rick Sanchez is a one dirty Sanchez

  21. NoleFan says:

Before I make a comment on Blago, Rick, I must tell you how much we miss you in South Florida TV and how much I wish your show was longer than 1 Hour…Wolf is on for 3 Hours (Nothing personal Wolf!)

As far as Blago, no doubt he is crooked, but I am so surprised how this issue has been handled in general.

Being born in another country, I treasure the American Constitution and Bil of Rights…Isn't everyone innocent till proven guilty? what if by some unbelievably incredible chance, he is NOT proven guilty and it turns out to be some kind of elaborate set up?? (Not that I believe it will ever happen), but what then?

    • Jimmie says:

There's a difference between a court of law and the court of public opinion. There's nothing wrong with you looking at the evidence before you and making up your own mind about someone's guilt or innocence.

  22. Lillie says:

If John McCain wanted to be seen abiding by the very clear and up-front rules of the debate and thereby proving his honesty and disinclination to cheat, he had the opportunity to do so. Good for Rick Sanchez for calling him on it.

  23. Maude says:

Rick, Iv'e always enjoyed your honesty/integrity/abilty 2 present an honest "opinion",however, I am quite dissapointed that u continue 2 call The President, Barak Obama.
