Mr. President, Bring them Back.
President Bush has a chance to show a little bit of leadership this week. All he has to do is call a special session of Congress and make it very clear that the only task the Democratic leadership has is to make sure that there is a fair vote on whether or not we can drill for our own oil.
So of course, he’s going to throw up his hands and do nothing.
The White House has rejected calls from House Republicans that it convene a special session of Congress on energy, saying it wouldn’t make a difference.
“We don’t have plans to call Congress into session — it won’t make a difference if Democratic leaders are unwilling to bring up a bill for an up-down vote,” said White House spokesman Tony Fratto.
To quote Eddie Izzard, “Soooooo?” Bring their narrow tails off of vacation and back to Washington. Force the issue. Make it abundantly clear that they can go home just as soon as they bring the Republican bills up for a straight-up yes or no vote. I figure that should take maybe three days at the most. Then they can all go home except for Nancy Pelosi who can go back to promoting her book entitled “How I Flew Congress Into the Side of A Mountain and Made Life Harder for Every Other Woman who Wants to be Speaker of the House”.
Sometimes you have to treat progressives like spoiled children: no recess until you do your homework. The President should be reminded of that this week.
