Pakistani Taliban: Zawahiri? Nah, He’s Just Fine and Dandy. Sprightly, Even.
Hot on the heels of the news that Islamist bigwig Ayman al-Zawahiri is close to joining the ululating choir eternal comes this denial from the Pakistani Taliban franchise.
“Zawahri has been killed by them several times. But once again this claim is wrong. This is baseless,” Maulvi Omar told Reuters by telephone from an undisclosed location.
Omar further said that Zawahiri wasn’t anywhere near the missile blast that reduced his brother in jihad Abu Khabab al-Masri to his component atoms. The denial’s pretty much the basic boilerplate of too much information (Dead? Heck, no. He wasn’t even in the same region!) and defiance (“Stupid infidels!”).
One can still hope that Zawahiri’s in a very, very bad way right now.
