We can not get rid of this guy fast enough.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Republican Sen. Ted Stevens pleaded not guilty on Thursday to charges of concealing more than $250,000 in gifts from an oil services company, and his lawyer asked for a quick trial in an effort to clear his name before the November election.
If Senate Republicans had a lick of sense, they’d walk away from his as quickly as possible. Some are, but not nearly enough. Fact is, Stevens is a poster child for the sort of corruption that can happen when elected officials use billions of our dollars to bribe their constituents into voting for them again and again. It’s a filthy dirty business that has no place in Washington, DC.
I’m glad that this prosecution is doing what the Republican Party couldn’t find the courage to do. It’s long past time that the man who spent our money like it was his own personal re-election fund and pouted like a petulant child deprived of his candy was stripped of any leadership responsibilities. I hope that it won’t take another prosecution for knock a few more imperial Senators off their pedestals.
