Barack Obama über Alles

Über alles in der Welt, apparently, if his speech yesterday in Berlin is to be taken as he delivered it. That speech was, of course, Barack Obama’s announcement that he’s running for Leader of the Whole World. I, personally, have an aversion to anyone standing in front of a crowd of adoring Germans and demanding that the world accede to his desires, but apparently that’s cool in today’s Democratic party. I might have thought that Germans would still rememberwhy that’s a bad idea, but perhaps their history education is as lacking as ours.

Gerard Baker, one of my very favorite columnists, has the definitive word on the whole Brother Barack’s Travelin’ Salvation Show. The beginnins just sets you up for the rest of the goodness:

And it came to pass, in the eighth year of the reign of the evil Bush the Younger (The Ignorant), when the whole land from the Arabian desert to the shores of the Great Lakes had been laid barren, that a Child appeared in the wilderness.

The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow.

I’ll have my own thoughts on the speech over the next couple of days. There is a lot in it to unpack and examine. In the meantime, read all of Baker’s column. He even threw in a few miracles.
