Iraq Goes 10 for 18. More to Come.

I got your milestone right here.

Responsibility for security in the southern Iraqi province of Diwaniya has been transferred to local Iraqi forces.

It is the 10th of Iraq’s 18 provinces to be transferred to the government.

The article goes on to say that the Iraqi government wants to be in the position to have every province under its control by the end of the year. That’s ambitious, but we can’t very well criticize the Iraqis for being too ambitious, can we?

Don’t answer that.

Bob Owens says:

You would think that turning point such as the Iraqis taking over the control of the majority of their country would be a moment that editorial writers, always looking for moments pregnant with symbolism, would gush over.

Forget that. They’re too busy gathering palm fronds and rustling up a donkey for Barack Obama’s triumphant ride through Europe.
