If the Billboard Fits…
I would say the solution to this little kerfuffle is obvious. Don’t give someone a reason to believe that the implication behind it is true, in any way at all. Can you imagine someone putting up a similar billboard that said “Please dont’ vote for John McCain”? The reason for that is Johnny Mac has made his position on fighting the Islamists abundantly clear. There are certainly points in his policy that are extremely distasteful, such as his desire to close Guantanamo Bay and throw all the detainees there fully into the civilian court system, but on the whole you can believe that he will do everything he possibly can to make sure that something like 9/11 never happens here again.
Can you say as much about the Democratic Party? No…not really.
