Obama is Showing Definite Signs of Being an East-West Runner
Barely a week ago, I called Barack Obama’s ninth flip-flop a doozy. Little did I know.
His latest flip-flop position that will require further clarification, involves whether Osama bin Laden should get the death penalty should we catch him alive. His position today is a very qualified maybe which is a change from his previous position of “probably not” or his even previous position of “maybe perhaps, but possibly not”.
I think Ed Morrissey has a much better slogan for Obama’s campaign:
Barack Obama. Change like you wouldn’t believe
For someone who is supposed to be such a smart politician, he’s playing this issue about as dumb as it gets. There’s no need to flip-flop on this at all. Given what we know of him (which admittedly does change on an hourly basis) it would be incredibly honest of him to say that he’s torn on the issue. No one would think less of him if he were to say that he’s very much against the death penalty but he’d be inclined to make an exception for Osama bin Laden. I imagine quite a few people out there feel just the same way. It would be an incredibly human thing to say.
Of course he didn’t say that at all. He did what I’m starting to see as his usual move on any contentious issue. He staked out a semi-bold position but soon started back the other direction. After he had gone that way a few steps he cut back the way he was originally going, though not all the way, and tried to juke through the hole his first position might have opened up. When you see a professional football player doing that it’s called “running east-west”. When a running back gets into that habit, one of two things are going to happen. Either he learns to pick a direction and run really fast to get around the outside of the defense or he sits on the bench watching a back who knows how to run straight ahead and hit the hole. Barack Obama doesn’t have many more chances to learn to “run north and south”. There’s no such thing as on the job training in a Presidential election and we don’t have the time for him to figure out just want he wants to do with the Islamists who are trying to kill us.
