Susan Rice, National Security Adviser to Losers, Gets It Wrong Again
If you haven’t heard of Susan Rice yet, I’m sure you will before long. She’s Barack Obama’s national security adviser. She’s also been a national security guru for Michael Dukakis and John Kerry, so you can see that she’s barely capable of playing a winning game of Risk much less giving credible foreign police advice.
She also apparently has a bit of a comprehension problem, too (link added).
A senior foreign policy adviser to the campaign, Susan Rice, said in a statement: “It’s time for John McCain to explain why he refuses to ask Iraq’s leaders to take responsibility for their own future, and why he has completely changed his own stated position that he would leave Iraq when the Iraqis ask us to. The American people need a strategy for succeeding in Iraq, not just a strategy for staying, and John McCain’s stubborn refusal to adjust to events on the ground just shows that he has no plan to end this war.” (Emphasis mine)
This is pretty much the bog-standard “blah blah” soundbyte on Iraq from the Obama campaign. It’s not true in the least, but it flows so effortlessly you can imagine that they all stand in front of a mirror repeating the phrases over and over again like creepy cultists until it’s as natural as breathing.
The reality, though, is that John McCain has always said that his decisions in Iraq will be strongly informed by what our commanders say and the desires of the government of Iraq. That’s what any thoughtful person would say in the same situation. No one short of a raving egotist or a cocky naif would suggest otherwise.
Of course, Johnny Mac’s national security adviser had to spell it out for her and the rest of the Democrats again, in very plain language. I imagine he gave this statement really slowly and deliberately, to make sure that Ms. Rice and her boss understood it this time.
“We are dealing with a sovereign government,” Mr. Scheunemann said. “If that sovereign government asks us to leave, we will leave. And if that sovereign government wants to continue to work cooperatively with us until they are able to provide their own security, we will stay. What we will not do is set an arbitrary timeline to withdraw irregardless of conditions on the ground or agreement with the sovereign Iraqi government.” (Emphasis mine)
Liar, liar, pants on fire, Ms. Rice. Go back to whatever you were doing. You really stink at the job you have now.
It’s good that her boss has finally come around to the notion that we are winning, that the Iraqi government is becoming strong and stable, that Iraq is no longer in the grips of a tyrant or bloodthirsty Islamists, and that he should probably listen to the commanders in Iraq instead of yammering on with leftist talking points when they come to visit Congress. It’s a shame he can’t get a national security adviser who can read a newspaper or visit the internet once in a while.
