The Internet Will Explode on July 15, 2008

And again on July 17 and probably twice on July 19th.

Those are the days that each part of a three-part little musical superhero movie cooked up by some bored out-of-work friends hits the web. The first installment of the movie, called Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog makes its appearance free of charge.

So what’s the big deal? And why would anyone in their right mind care?

Because Doc Horrible is the creation of Joss Whedon, known to most geeks as a television super-genius. And it stars Nathan Fillion, Neil Patrick Harris, and Felicia Day. This thing is going to unite Buffy/Angel/Firefly geeks (not a tiny number, by the way) plus admirers of smoking hot, girl-next-door-looking, geek women and hunky hunky men with the force of a supercollider. Oh, and Neil Patrick Harris, too. I suggest that they lay on a few extra servers that day to handle the crushing weight of that much traffic.

I’m looking forward to it just a bit myself. Then again, I love Whedon’s ear for dialogue and his odd sense of humor. It could be very, very cool. How cool? Check out the trailer after the jump.

How can you resist at least taking a peek at the first episode? It’s free and you can’t much beat free.
