A Franchise Talent Gets Franchise Money
Conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh Wednesday inked an eight-year contract for around $400 million, underscoring how radio is spending big sums on bankable talent to compete in the crowded entertainment field.
By comparison, second-ranked talk show host Sean Hannity, who does not lack for an audience nor influence on the political scene, is being offered an 8-year $200 million contract by a competing company. Rush got twice that. Booyah.
I like seeing talented, hard-working, clever people getting big piles of cash. This country encourages and rewards entrepreneurship and hard work better than any other country in the world and I would think that anyone who cherishes the ideals that underpin America would find a little satisfaction in this story.
Well, okay. That’s not the only thing that makes me happy about the story. I’m also happy knowing that the progressives are choking on their own tongues over this (via memeorandum). It has to rankle the nutroots to know that Rush got more in a single signing bonus than the entire roster of Air America was worth in its heyday.
Lastly, I’ve heard that Rush is shoping around for a new jet plane. After the jump, my suggestion:
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you what I think ought to be Rush’s next purchase, the new EIB-1.
