John McCain Doesn’t Know How Much Gas Costs. Get Out the Pitchforks! (UPDATE: Guess What? He Didn’t Say That At All.)
Oh good lord. Apparently, John McCain says that he doesn’t know what the price of gas is and that he doesn’t see how it matters whether he does or not.
Of course, it doesn’t matter one bit. You don’t need to know what gas costs to know that it’s far higher than it should be. You don’t need to know a dollar amount to know that every single “solution” the Democratic party has proposed is just an excuse for higher taxes, higher prices, and more government control of your wealth and our economy. I’ve yet to see one progressive toss out an energy idea that didn’t involve huge government subsidies, higher taxes on oil companies, and bigger and more intrusive government. It would be laughable if it weren’t costing us a whole ton of money.
Michael van der Galien heaps scorn on this story and the bloggers who are piddling themselves over the sheer excitement of it all. Good job, Michael.
UPDATE: I should have known. John McCain most definitely did not say that he didn’t know what the price of gas is. He said that’s he’s not pumped his own gas in a while. Patterico made a great catch there, a catch that I really should have made considering that it’s right in the transcript of the call.
Twice.
Leave it up to the left not only to get all nuts about a nothing story, but to have to make up the nothing story out of whole cloth, too..

thanks Jimmy. Meanwhile, how about cross posting some of your stuff at Poli?
I know, MIchael. Problem is, every time I find something good I want to post there, you guys are all over it! I'm like the minor-leaguer coming in over there.
Must be nice to not have to pump your own gas, much less pay for it. He's just like all the other politicians: If it doesn't affect him personally, he doesn't know or care anything about it.
mikey – You understand why he hasn't pumped his own gas, right? He's been under Secret Service protection for a while now. They're a bit twitchy about letting the people under their protection just hang out by a gas pump while the secured vehicle gasses up.
Oh, and those vehicles usually don't just fill up at the neighborhood Amoco either.
And, all the other candidates have exactly the same problem. None of them have filled up their own gas tanks for the same reason.
Think it through, man.
Think on it very hard!!
