To quote Christopher Walken as The Continental, “Wowee, wow, wow!” Michelle Malkin and Melanie Morgan set out yesterday to raise half a million dollars to send care packages to our soldiers overseas. Instead, they raised more than twice that.

Over. One. Million. Dollars.

That is completely awesome! I honestly wasn’t sure they’d quite get to the $500K in only eight hours. But, no. They blew that out of the water.

Thanks, guys, for being a part of that. I know that a couple of you tried to give but weren’t successful (I was one of those whose credit card was caught by the glitch with the site traffic). That happens sometimes and it zapped me like it did several others, if the comments at Hot Air are an accurate measure. Even with that, though, this was a prodigious achievement and I hope it gets some real MSM coverage. The troops ought to hear from more than us bloggers that folks here are still looking out for them.

I think it’s wonderful that this woman did what she did. What’s SAD is that she had to. Sending luxuries to troops is fine – but when they are in NEED – as I understand they still are in some very basic ways – I say SHAME on our country! And BTW – that has nothing at all to do with my feeling about this war – it’s not the point. If we send our men and women to do a dangerous job, they shouldn’t have to do it on short rations.

I don’t think they _are_ in need in some very basic ways – unless it’s a factor of being located with Iraqi Forces units in a very primitive country. Or out on patrol…

What have you heard? What are your sources?

    Mmm-hmm, sure it doesn’t….

Who said she had to? Neither one of these women had to do any such thing.

I understand that it’s a common belief on the left that our troops are deprived of basic supplies. None of those charges have turned out to be true, as troops in the field have testified on several occasions. So what are you hearing?
