Quote of the Day, Mindless Videogame Edition
“I don’t think games have to be fun…I think games have to be engaging.”
And they have to lecture and just be stuffed full of teachable moments and important life lessons, too. Whoopee.
Hey lady, I have an idea. You know that little Darfur refugee game? Well, why not get with the creator to make a sequel. You could find new ways of prissing around genocide instead of putting a boot up the backsides of the people who have some power to do something about it. Every million dead would give you a new Change is Good powerup that you could use to make yourself feel all happy and maybe buy some new stuff in the special “Darfur Died, So What?” store! T-Shirts would be cool, wouldn’t they?
Alternately, I think kids could learn a whole lot with a game where you were a Darfur refugee who got hold of a gun and hunted down a few janjaweed rapists. That would be a ton more teachable than any of the happy-crappy stuff your company is likely to pump out on the issue.
