New Refineries for Iran but Nothing for Us

| June 12, 2008 | Comments (2)

Hooray, seven new refineries will be built and online by 2012! They’ll increase gasoline production by about 1.5 million barrels a day, which is not exactly chicken feed.

The only hitch to the story is that the refineries will be in Iran and they will, according to the Fars News Agency, make it so that the Mullahs won’t be dependent on oil exports. So, yeah, that’s great news.

As see-dubya puts it:

Don’t say I’ve never said anything nice about the mullahs: Iran recognizes a strategic vulnerability, and they do something about it. Unlike our own unclued caribou-smooching clownshow.

And, hey, just think. We actually nominated two people for President who not only won’t drill for more oil here nor want to build any more refineries, but actually want to make gasoline more expensive on purpose! Here’s an exit question for Republicans. How are you all feeling right now about all that “Fred Thompson isn’t electable” and “Duncan Hunter isn’t electable” crap right about now? How that “Mitt’s not conservative enough” and “Rudy’s not conservative enough” garbage tasting when you roll up to the gas pump? Imagine how much better it’s going to taste when gas is $5 or $6 a gallon.

Every one of them had an energy policy that involved more than “tax the oil companies” and “pray a lot”. Every one.
