Hooray, Republicans Finally Got Something Right!

Thank goodness, the Republicans seem to have a little backbone. They’re set to defeat the Democrats’ truly silly climate change bill, the bill that would have set us down the very same cap and trade road that has been a millstone around Europe’s neck for the past couple years.

The bill really was just a huge bit of political grandstanding from a bunch of folks who don’t have to live with the consequences it would have brought. Now that it’s dead, perhaps we can have a serious discussion about climate change and what, if anything, we need to do to mitigate its effects (assuming, of course, that we are able to do so). Our country should not be subject to the whims of a Congress determined to throw our money after whatever quack remedy comes down the road promising restoration and rejuvenation and a cure for the rheumatiz.

I’m sure it will, though, since our three major Presidential candidates all believe that not only is Big Momma Gaia nigh unto death but that the only cure is slapping a few more leeches on her. It’s a shame they aren’t serious about the whole thing but why would they be? They’re US Senators. We don’t require them to be serious about anything.

As you mention, no matter which candidate ends up in the White House, it's pretty certain the next Congress is going to change the regulatory environment for the energy industry. Since the Senate failed to even discuss it, the industry doesn't have a clue what's likely to happen, and thus can't prepare…

It appears that the industry has invested quite heavily in moving the legislation towards the best possible outcome for it. One of the worst parts of the bill (as if there's a good part? ) is just how much money would be essentialy handed to various industries.
