Rut roh, Barack.

CHICAGO (AP) – A prominent fundraiser for Sen. Barack Obama and Gov. Rod Blagojevich was convicted of fraud, money laundering and bribery Wednesday after a trial that exposed a corrupt culture of payoffs and campaign finance abuses plaguing Illinois politics.

Not only is Resko a big-time fundraiser for Obama. he’s also the guy who shepherded him through the stickier parts of Chicago Democratic Politics. That is to say, he’s the guy who introduced him to a few other corrupt people and greased a few wheels, as wheels must be greased in that city.

More, he’s the guy who sold Obama and his wife their house in a sweetheart deal and then turned around and sold him a bit more land to widen the yard in another sweetheart deal. Resko is one Barack Obama’s closest associates for most of his political career and if someone tells you that there’s no way Obama could know that he was corrupt to the top of his head, that person is lying to you. Ed Morrissey puts paid to the Obama lie that the Tony Resko who’s going to jail just wasn’t the same Tony Resko he’d come to know and love. I find Obama’s sudden amazement that his close, personal friend was a huge crook kind of charming. It’s a little sweet to see that he thinke he’s still back in Chicago where an obvious lie and a charming smile will get him entirelyu out of trouble.

Michelle Malkin blogged through the verdict and has chapter and verse about what a real dirty dealer Resko is. And the courts aren’t done with him either. He has a couple more criminal charges for which he has to answer. His ccases could drag on through the summer, up to and past the Democratic National Convention.

Don’t think that Hillary Clinton and quite a few non-hypnotized Democrats haven’t taken note.

So, his last fundraising for Obama was in 2004, and he fundraised for Bush in 2003, yet only Obama is guilty by association today?

Well, spoots, when we find out that Resko started Bush’s political career and sold him his house and adjoining land in a sweetheart deal, we’ll talk. Until then, you’re grasping. Badly.

  3. Lori says:

Spoots – What bothers you more…that Obama is a liar? or that he is cozy with Bush’s associate?

  4. spoots says:

My point is that your use of “guilt by association” is faulty and grasping. Obama hasn’t been accused of anything illegal.

I’m not using “guilt by association”. I didn’t accuse Senator Obama of anything illegal. He is certainly guilty of being a close associate to a criminal. He is certainly guilty of using the increased advantage Resko gained because of his criminal activities to get ahead in his political career and to get himself a really nice house. Those are now undeniable, given Resko’s conviction.

Uh, and how is that not GbA? GbA isn’t a legal term, you nitwit, it’s a term of logic/rhetoric. You are trying to get some of Rezko’s (please learn how to spell the guy’s name) dirt on Obama, but it is Rezko’s alone. Unless you can prove that Obama abetted or encouraged R’s illegal actions, you are merely playing scumball politics (as usual).

“He is certainly guilty of using the increased advantage Resko gained because of his criminal activities to get ahead in his political career and to get himself a really nice house. Those are now undeniable, given Resko’s conviction.”
O’s house had nothing to do with R’s crimes. If it did, O would be on trial, too.

  7. Jimmie says:

    spoots, you’re playing dumb here.

Let me say this clearly. Barack Obama got a direct benefit from the increased influence and access that Rezko had. Rezko got that increased influence and access because of his criminal activities. Thus, Obama gained a benefit from Rezko’s crime. That is undeniable, no matter how you try to wriggle away from it. I am not “trying” to get Rezko’s dirt on Obama. Obama did that all by himself.

I am not accusing Barack Obama of committing a crime. I am saying what anyone not blinded by his Messianic Glow can see – he made out because his friend, political enabler, and money man was a criminal.

You are unable to measure the amount of influence Rezko gained from his illegal activities vs. from his legal activities.
