Man…what?

The Bishop of Stafford, Gordon Mursell, said that by failing to face up to the truth about climate change, we were – like Josef Fritzl – denying our children a future.

He stressed that he was not accusing those who do nothing about global warming of being child abusers, but said that shocking analogies were needed to force people to face up to the threat to the future of mankind.

In a pastoral letter distributed in parish magazines throughout the Diocese of Lichfield, the Bishop wrote: ‘Josef Fritzl represents merely the most extreme form of a very common philosophy of life: I will do what makes me happy, and if that causes others to suffer, hard luck.

‘In fact you could argue that, by our refusal to face the truth about climate change, we are as guilty as he is – we are in effect locking our children and grandchildren into a world with no future and throwing away the key.

How in the world can a thinking human being, someone used to being in front of people and talking off the cuff as a vocation, say something to blazingly wrong? For those of you who don’t recognize the name, Josef Fritzl is the German man who kept his daughter locked up in his cellar for 24 years. He repeatedly raped her, to the point where she had seven children by him. He kept three of those children imprisoned in the cellar as well (the oldest had been there for 19 years).

I need to be really clear about what he’s saying. Let us assume that the most bat-spit insane global warming alarmist is right and the Earth warms 8 degrees Celsius in the next 40 or 50 years. That means that the Bishop’s home town of Stafford (which lies just north of Birmingham, so I’ll use that as a marker) with an average summertime temperature of 20° Celsius (68°F) would instead have an average of 28° C (82.4°F).

So, according to the not-terribly honorable Bishop, forcing your children and grandchildren to live with the same average temperature as Bordeaux, France; Bucharest, Romania; Genova, Italy; or Eugene, Oregon is just as bad as being an incestuous rapist. If you disagree, you are anathema according to the Bishop’s true Church, the Church of Global Warming.

I sincerely hope the Anglicans smack him down, publicly and very, very hard.

I predict that they will not smack him at all. Certainly not in public. In private many will commend him and tell him that he was correct but the rest of the world isn’t ready to accept it.

I fear you are right, martin.

Global Warming is the new, well, I don’t know what it is. I’ve not seen anything quite like it. It seems to drive otherwise sane people right over the edge into jackbooted fascist land.

And we care what this twit says because….?
